BSBG’s long-term relationship with Dubai developer Omniyat continues, as we announce the involvement of the group in the design and delivery of Private Residences by Dorchester Collection – a development which represents the first foray into the Dubai hospitality sector for The Dorchester Collection, one of the world’s leading luxury hotelier brands.
BSBG has now been novated to Roberts Construction for this Design and Build Contract, and is performing a central role in the design coordination and delivery of the landmark development. The concept was produced by Foster + Partners, with BSBG managing the design teams from concept to completion. The project will feature a 100% BIM workflow from start to finish, in line with BSBG’s international standards.Alistair Bradley, BSBG Associate and Lead Architect for the project, gave us more detail on the workflow and expected completion date: “Our roles in this landmark development include the provision of management and coordination across the consultant team. We are working alongside BG&E as the structural engineer, and the MEP engineer, CSA, to coordinate this BIM project. We have taken on the responsibility for delivering this Foster + Partners design, obtaining the required authority approvals in our role as Lead Consultant. Thus far, there have been nominal changes to the concept principles and we have developed the Detailed Design information based upon the authority requirements and client direction. Work is currently onsite and the basement level 2 slab is currently being poured. We are targeting a Q4 2020 completion for Private Residences by Dorchester Collection.”
BSBG’s long-term working relationship with Omniyat began back in 2008 as work commenced on Zaha Hadid’s The Opus, with BSBG again the Lead Consultant. This relationship has continued with Langham Place, a project for which the same role is being carried out, and now with the prestigious Dorchester Collection, a third new and exciting introduction to the Dubai hospitality sector is on the horizon as a result of a partnership between Omniyat and BSBG.
Private Residences by Dorchester Collection is the latest five-star development to become part of the growing Business Bay masterplan, which has been the subject of great interest for real estate developers and investors – particularly since the Dubai Canal expansion project reached completion in 2017, and the Marasi development continues to expand throughout the district. The Dorchester Collection is a globally revered hotel brand, synonymous with luxury. The hotelier counts some of the world’s most famous hotels under its stewardship, including The Beverly Hills Hotel in LA, Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris, Hotel Eden in Rome and its flagship Dorchester Hotel in London’s Park Lane. With this forthcoming presence in Dubai, The Dorchester Collection moves the brand into a new modern, pristine architectural aesthetic, representing a departure from the more classical, renaissance vocabulary of decorative and constructive elements featured throughout many of their European and Stateside hotels.
A dual-tower steel and glass structure with interconnected elements will rise from the ground to create a new landmark for Business Bay, with the smaller tower earmarked as the hotel and the second, larger high-rise designated to contain high-class residences. Features of this striking development include an open-air swimming pool, fitness centre and stunning rooftop restaurant with uninhibited views across Downtown and Old Dubai to one side, and the Burj Al Arab and Dubai Marina to the other.
Private Residences by Dorchester Collection is one of a number of exclusive hotels and luxury resort-style residences within the BSBG portfolio. As previously mentioned, the practice is currently also working on Langham Place and is now finishing up work on The Opus by Zaha Hadid – the lower section of which will become ME by Melia, another 5-star offering.
In addition to its work with Omniyat, BSBG is in the midst of delivering Banyan Tree Residences – Hillside Dubai for developer Sweid & Sweid, and is working on delivering its own design for Dutco Group’s new Jebel Ali Park Hotel, also currently under construction.
Other BSBG projects in the UAE’s hospitality sector include the ongoing construction of Aloft City Centre Deira, Dubai, the successful refurb of the popular Jebel Ali Hotel, an interior refurbishment of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, delivery of MOE Hilton Garden Inn, and Staybridge Abu Dhabi.
