Luxury international hospitality group The Langham is coming to Dubai, and will open a hotel and residence in 2020 under the modern Langham Place brand, developer Omniyat has announced. The prestigious project is presented in a dual tower format, and is situated on the banks of Dubai Canal at the heart of the new Marasi development in Business Bay. BSBG is managing the design and delivery of the Langham Place, having taking involvement during the concept stage as Lead Consultant, Executive Architect and Structural Engineer.
The hotel tower will feature 169 rooms, while the second tower includes 239 serviced one, two and three-bedroom residences, as well as deluxe penthouses. The BUA for the project is 680,838 square foot.
Langham Place hotels are predominantly to be found across Asia, providing a contemporary and urban relative to the more traditional roots of The Langham, which originated in London in 1865. The Langham in London is in fact said to be the birthplace of the ‘afternoon tea’ – a very British tradition.
That ‘The Langham’ brand hasn’t previously been introduced to the lucrative hospitality market in Dubai may come as something of a surprise to those familiar with the emirate’s hospitality offerings, as the brand’s penchant for elegance and reputation for the luxurious seemingly makes the hotel a perfect candidate for success in the Dubai tourism sector.
Having opened its doors in 1865, The Langham in London quickly gained a reputation as being a hotel that would often accomplish ‘firsts’ for the hotel industry, much as Dubai targets the same; a modern city looking to embrace innovation and technology. The Langham became known as the first ‘Grand Hotel’ in Europe, and was also a pioneer in the implementation of air conditioning and hydraulic lifts.
BSBG’s portfolio currently boasts four live hotel projects. As well as Langham Place, the practice is also leading the design coordination and delivery of another exclusive international hotel brand – The Dorchester Collection, also on behalf of Omniyat. Private Residences by Dorchester Collection is similarly a 5-star exclusive dual tower interlinking development, with one tower a hotel and the other residences. It too is situated in Business Bay overlooking the canal. This project is scheduled for a late 2020 completion.
The exclusive Banyan Tree brand is soon to make its first entrance into the residential market, with the exclusive Banyan Tree Residences – Hillside Dubai located in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The BSBG-designed tower and masterplan is currently at the mid-point of construction, and when complete will provide 110,000 sq. ft. of luxurious resort-style living for its residents. Currently the tower has reached its 14th level of 31.
In close vicinity to the BSBG Headquarters, Aloft City Centre Deira is making great progress, and will bring an edgy urban boutique vibe to Deira, targeted at Millennial travellers with a very precise set of expectations from a modern hotel. The target for completion and handover is by the close 2018.
Also on site, is the BSBG-designed Jebel Ali Park Hotel, which overlooks the popular golf course in the corner site of the wider Jebel Ali Hotel complex. More details on this project will follow shortly.
Langham Place is the fourth current live hotel project for BSBG, and as the group’s expanding portfolio of projects in the hospitality sector illustrates, this is an avenue that has been prioritised as a key sector for BSBG on an international front.
